I have enjoyed some time away and catching up on some reading. Those who know me know I am an avid reader of American history. This was an interesting book on a relatively unknown part of American history. Our Founding Fathers were extraordinary men who were willing to pay the ultimate price. There were a lot a of great quotes in this book but the following quote by George Washington was perhaps the most powerful to me. This quote was an excerpt from a letter he wrote to his troops after discovering the internal conspiracy to take his life.
“The time is now near at hand, which must probably determine whether Americans are to be…consigned to a state of wretchedness, from which no human efforts will probably deliver them. The fate of unborn millions will now depend, under God, on the courage and conduct of this army. Our cruel and unrelenting enemy leaves us no choice. But a brave resistance or the most abject submission. This is all that we can expect. We have, therefore, to resolve to conquer or die.”
May we never forget the selfless acts of great Americans as well as a willingness to pay the ultimate price while thinking of future generations. May we as Americans and Christians not just rest in the shadows of such greatness but also be willing to make similar sacrifices for Liberty, Truth, and Right. George Washington had no idea he would be the Icon he is today. He believed in the cause of liberty and was willing to die for it. May we be willing to stand without fear of consequence. This is the history of our country every American has the responsibility to know.
Thank you to the Burns family for the gift of the book.
Pastor Neal, through his preaching and his counseling, displays the compassionate heart of a pastor, follows the true leading of the Holy Spirit, and expresses a fervent desire to see lost souls come to know Christ. It is his ultimate desire to see the greater Jacksonville area reached for the cause of Christ and for revival to come to Northeast Florida.
